If you are purchasing drinkware as a business gift or promotional handout, there’s lots to consider other than just price. In this blog, we’re focusing on 5 things to consider when buying water bottles and tumblers, etc. Drinkware can be a substantial investment, so you’ll want to get the best value for your dollar, and pay attention to the following:
It’s all in the lid! The lid features determine if the product is leak-proof or just leak-resistant. It also determines if the product is suitable for hot and cold beverages (needs to be able to disperse the heat if you’re going to put coffee in it – or the bubbles if you are putting in carbonated drinks). Also check out the lid construction to see if you can get at all the parts. If you forget to rinse out after yesterday’s coffee – that will be important to you.
2. Thermal Insulation
A good quality, double-walled stainless steel water bottle will keep your cold drink cold all day – even if left out in the sun! And this bottle won’t sweat in the heat. We recommend both layers (walls) be made from stainless steel. Although plastic interiors are cheaper, stainless steel is superior and won’t impart any taste into the drink.
3. Outside Finish:
Many brilliant colours and finishes on stainless steel are available now. Be aware though that these finishes will eventually scratch. If you are looking for the longest-lasting finish, skip the fancy finish and your product will look like new for much longer.
4. Decorating or Imprinting
Your usual choices here are pad print or laser. Pad printing can visually “pop”, but can also chip. Laser is a bit more expensive but is permanent. Sometimes there’s an option for a laser fill, blending the two for a great look.
5. Dishwasher Safe:
Keep in mind; most drinkware for promotional use is not dishwasher safe. Automatic dishwashers can scuff the finish. Also, in the case of double-walled products, the layers can actually pop-apart in extreme heat or cold if the layers are of different materials (e.g. stainless steel outer and plastic or ceramic inner layer).
Of course, budget will be a factor. You have to decide if you want your handout to be another bottle someone will add to their collection, or the bottle they will take everywhere with them and mention to others (doing some word of mouth advertising for you!). You can be more selective on whom you hand out to. A good quality bottle will likely be kept for many years. Taking a few minutes beforehand to consider your options, you can make an informed decision and not have any surprises when your product is delivered!
